10 Signs You're Carrying Too Much
You already know something is off. You didn't come to a page called this by accident. Read the ten below slowly. If three or more land, that isn't a bad day — that's a pattern. And patterns respond to attention.
A note before we start: this is not a diagnosis. It's a mirror. The strongest women I work with can name a hundred things they're doing for other people and almost nothing they're doing for themselves. If that sounds familiar, this list will feel less like a quiz and more like a long exhale.
- 01
You're the first call for everyone else's crisis — and no one is yours.
You've become the reliable one so consistently that it stopped being a role and started being your identity. When you fall, there's no net you didn't weave yourself.
- 02
Sleep doesn't fix the tired anymore.
You get eight hours and wake up already behind. That's not lazy. That's a nervous system that never actually gets to power down because part of it is always on call.
- 03
You resent people you love, and it scares you.
Resentment is not a character flaw. It's a signal. It shows up when you've been giving past your true yes for so long that your body finally started protesting on your behalf.
- 04
Your calendar is full and you still feel like you've forgotten something.
The forgotten thing is usually you. The version of you that had a want that wasn't tied to somebody else's outcome.
- 05
You've stopped asking for what you need because it's easier not to.
You learned somewhere along the way that asking cost more than doing it yourself. So you stopped asking. And then you stopped knowing what you'd ask for if you could.
- 06
You cry in the car. Then you walk in and smile.
That switch is expensive. Every time you flip it you spend a little more of the reserve you weren't going to get back this week.
- 07
You've started to hate the word 'strong.'
Because you know what it actually means when people say it about you. It means: we're relieved we don't have to worry about her. It means: keep going.
- 08
You can't remember the last time you wanted something that was only yours.
Not for the kids. Not for the household. Not for the business. Something you wanted for the plain reason that you're a person and you wanted it.
- 09
You're carrying grief no one has named.
Sometimes it's the mother you didn't get. Sometimes it's the marriage you thought this would be. Sometimes it's the version of your life that quietly closed while you were being responsible. It's real. It counts.
- 10
You keep telling yourself you'll get to your own life when this season ends. The season keeps not ending.
This is the one that finally moves most women. Because they realize they've been saying it for years, and the calendar just keeps flipping.
How to read your score
1–2 signs. You're paying attention. Keep it that way. A little pruning now saves you a lot of unraveling later.
3–5 signs. The load is real. Not a crisis, but no longer a season you can wait out. This is the moment to make it visible and start setting things down on purpose.
6 or more. Please hear me. This is not something to push through. What you're carrying is more than a person should carry alone, and it's not a character flaw that it hurts. It's physics.
One small move for today
Pick one sign that landed hardest. Not all of them. One. Write down — on paper, in your notes app, wherever — the specific stone under it. Whose is it. When you picked it up. What it costs you to keep holding. That's it. That's the whole assignment.
You don't have to put it down today. Just stop pretending it isn't in your hands.
If you want a companion for the next five days
The 5-Day Mini Reset is a short, free walk through the STONES framework — one prompt a day, one honest reflection, one small move. It's the same practice I use with private clients, distilled into something you can do in ten minutes with a cup of coffee. Grab it on the home page and start tomorrow.
